パターン：I would have … ; I wouldn't have … [上級]

今回は would have の使い方をお伝えします。would have (would've) とは、意志/意思・自信/確信から「～だっただろう / ～したのに」と過去のことを仮定の話(想像)で話す時に使います。would have は大体「if I had … (もし～だったのなら)」と一緒に使います。

• If I had (過去分詞) I would have (過去分詞).
  もし～だったのなら～したのに
• I would have (過去分詞), if I had (過去分詞).
  もし～だったのなら～したのに

上記のパターンは if 節と一緒に使われる場合でしょう？では、いくつかの例文をお見せします。

• I would have gone if you had invited me.
  誘ってくれれば行ったのに。
• If the train hadn't been late, I would've been home by now!
  電車が遅れていなければ、今頃家についていたのに！
• If I hadn't been busy I would have gone to the party.
  忙しくなければ、私もパーティーに行ったんだけどなぁ。
• If I had known, I would have brought an umbrella.
  もし知っていたら、傘を持って行っただろう。
• If I had had enough money, I would have bought the newest iPhone.
  もしお金を持っていたら、最新のiPhone買ったんだけどなぁ。
• If I had studied more, I would have gone to that college.
  もっと勉強してたら、あの大学行けたのに。

would have は「～するつもりだったが、できなかった」という意味でもよく使われます。この場合には "I would have (過去分詞) but I couldn't" などのパターンを使うことができます。

• I would have gone to the meeting, but my car broke down.
  会議に行くつもりだったのですが、車が故障してしまいました。
• He would have helped me, but it was too late.
  彼が私を助けてくれたかもしれないけど，遅すぎた
• She would have stayed later, but she got a phone call from work.
  彼女は、もっと遅くまで残るつもりでしたが、仕事場から電話がかかってきてしまいました。
• They would have gone out to a restaurant, but they didn't have enough time.
  レストランに行こうとしていましたが、時間がありませんでした。

(I) would have の否定形は (I) wouldn't have となり、疑問形は Would (you) have となります。

• If I had known about COVID-19 at the time, I wouldn't have gone to China.
  あの時コロナウィルスのこと知ってたら、中国に行かなかったのに。
• I wouldn't have been able to speak English if I hadn't gone abroad.
  もし留学してなかったら英語を話せなかっただろう。
• Would you have gone if you weren't busy?
  忙しくなかったら行っていただろうか？
• If it were you, what would you have done?
  もしそれがあなたなら、どうしましたか

If I were you, I would 

If I were you, I would … は「もし私があなただったら、～する」という意味です。相手の立場になって考えてアドバイスをする時によく使われるフレーズで、ビジネスシーンでもカジュアルな場面でも使えます。次の二つのパターンで使われます.

• If I were you, I would (動詞の原形)
  私なら、～するよ
• If I were you, I would have (過去分詞)
  私なら、～しただろうな

I would (動詞の原形) は、相手の立場になって考えてアドバイスをする時に使われて、I would have (過去分詞) は 過去に起こった出来事に対して自分ならこうしただろうとアドバイスを言う時にも使えます。

Example
If I were you I would quit the job.
僕ならその仕事を辞めるだろう
If I were you I would have quit the job.
僕ならその仕事を辞めただろう
